EL CLASSICO – TALKING POINTS

The second Classico of the season didn’t disappoint. It was a spectacular game of football with both teams going end to end for the victory. It ended 1-1 with Real Madrid drawing first blood after Vazquez put the ball in the back of net, early in the second half, Barça got the equalizer through Malcom who had a good game today. Messi came on in the second half but couldn’t help Barça get the winning goal.

Here are some talking points.

SUAREZ’S PASSES KEEP GETTING WORSE
Luis Suarez has been criticized for his poor first touch since the beginning of the season and this match was no exception. Suarez had the chance to put Malcom through on goal with a perfect through ball but the Uruguayan screwed the pass and moments later Madrid had the ball in the back of the net through Vazquez after some neat play between Vicinius and Benzema.

BATLLE BETWEEN SEMEDO AND ROBERTO
The battle for the right back spot between Semedo and Sergi Roberto keeps getting hotter as the season goes on. Semedo played a brilliant match, he was dangerous offensively and also did his work defensively, keeping Vinicius and Marcelo at arm’s length. If he continues this good form, the Barça coach is going to have headache selecting his number 1 right back.

ARTHUR IS THE NEXT XAVI
Since Xavi left Barça, it’s been difficult to get a direct replacement or something close to the Spanish and Barça legend. Arthur had another brilliant game along side Busquets in midfield, keeping the ball and distributing passes accurately, it was Xavi 2.0 at camp Nou. The young Brazilian bought from Gremio last summer is beginning to show his worth this season and he has been exceptional so far.

ANOTHER BAD GAME FOR COUTINHO
Despite attempting about 3 shots during the match, the most expensive signing in the history of Barça had another game to forget. The former Liverpool has been struggling for form this season and it’s not just working out for him. His miserable night came to an end in the second half after being replaced by Messi.

MALCOM STEPS UP
The young Brazilian stepped up his game in his first ever Classico. Messi started the match on the bench meaning he had to be replaced, with Dembele not making the match squad, Malcom was handed a rare start and the former Bordeaux winger didn’t disappoint. He scored a brilliant goal to make it 1-1 and he was a constant threat on the right flank causing the Madrid defense some trouble.

VINICIUS PASSES CLASSICO TEST
Just like Malcom, the 18 year old Brazilian was handed his Classico debut and he didn’t disappoint. His lovely cross to Benzema led to the first goal after the French man square played the ball to Vazquez. In an electric first half display, he attempted more shots (4) than all of Barcelona’s players combined.
